The Modis Solution: New system documentation team provides information, training
This client required a team of professionals to assist with the documentation of new systems put into production by its development community and then providing high-level training to all users on the new system.
Based on Modis’ strong existing relationship with this client – we have been supplying technical writers and documentation analysts to them since 1992 – we were given the opportunity to assemble the entire team. The team included business analysts, technical writers and instructional designers. The project went as planned, and the client was so impressed with the team that they hired all members permanently. This Fortune 500 Company provides health care and related benefits offered through the workplace. Key product lines include health care products and services (medical, pharmacy, behavioral health, clinical information management, dental and vision benefits, and case and disease management); and group disability, life and accident insurance. In addition, the company also provides life, accident, health and expatriate employee benefits insurance coverage in selected international markets, primarily in Asia and Europe.
The Modis Solution: HIPAA expertise combined with testing and analytical knowledge
The client wanted their members to be able to access certain transactions over the Internet, while maintaining HIPAA compliance. The client initiated a project to allow their members to review eligibility and benefit information, as well as claims through a clearing house using the Internet. The client developed a Java-based application where each transaction from their providers is provided via a clearing house and is received in X12 format. This data is converted to “common record format” and sent to the mainframes. The request is processed and the relevant data is sent back to the clearing house in X12 format.
Modis provided business analyst resources to assist with the development of the business system design and testing for the 270/271 and 276/277 HIPAA transactions. The client has multiple eligibility and claim systems and applications were written for each of these back end systems. These applications included mapping of the source system data to “common record format.” Modis consultants worked on building the test plan strategy, test scenarios and test data. We also served as part of the testing team, coordinating the testing with the developers and business users. Technologies included Test Director and Winrunner testing tools to automate the testing process. Finally, Modis coordinated with the business users to resolve issues and meet the project deadlines.

The Modis Solution: Coordinating business components, meeting deadlines for project
This client needed to allow the Registration and Pre-Registration of their providers using a Single Sign On (SSO) process. This registration must comply with the overall Kaiser/MDL Settlement which requires the client to provide access to their web site in order to obtain eligibility and benefits, claim processing guidelines and more specific information such as fee schedules and claim check guidelines. The registration process must be completed within a reasonable timeframe and be as simple as possible in order to attract usage.
The client will leverage its current registration and re-registration process and enhancements will be made to create ease for their providers and ultimately reduce the manual and cumbersome processes in place today such as automating PIN or password reset requests. Registration will no longer be rolled out to specific networks but will be offered to all provider types via their Web site.
Modis provided assistance for the business requirements of the project. Our consultant coordinated with the business components to gather the requirements from each of the areas. He was responsible for meeting the deadlines and time estimation of the project.

The client’s technical staff was developing a conference room scheduling system in house. The system had been in development for three years, but was still not fully operational or very easy to use. They required development assistance to complete the customized program.

Modis provided consulting services to support the client’s semantic modeling/ontology project for large application integration initiative. The initial phase consisted of assessing the project and creating a realistic approach to delivering an ontology based on client objectives and requirements. Following the first phase, the team created the ontology which was utilized as the cornerstone for the logical and physical data modelers supporting the overall application architecture and development.
Modis provided development expertise to perform updates to a customer information upload program written in an obsolete version of Perl code to handle the recent changes in customer requirements. The client called on Modis to assist with a critical desktop support project with an absolute deadline. The company found nearly 130 desktops that required immediate upgrades. Modis delivered a team of engineers as well as a project manager to perform the upgrades as well as perform testing to ensure all of the machines were in compliance. The Modis team completed the project ahead of schedule and under budget.
Modis also assisted the client with desktop support and network maintenance for an internal move project. We provided a team of contractors to assist with the moves; these contractors were trained on the client’s technical standards for tracking their equipment, including mapping, network peripherals and conducting asset scans. Modis’ assistance with this project allowed the client to accomplish its daily goals and complete the move on time.
