The Modis Solution: Provide Web-based application expertise for system upgrade The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources is charged with preserving and protecting the state’s well-known natural resources. The Department has offices throughout the state, encourages businesses, farmers and local governments to use responsible environmental practices, and manages initiatives to safeguard air and water quality. Modis has been instrumental in the development of major projects for the Department of Environmental Natural Resources since 1998. The Department’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) regulates the quality of the air in North Carolina through technical assistance to industries and enforcement of state and federal air pollution standards. The Division issues permits, establishes ambient air quality standards, monitors the air quality of the state and operates a vehicle inspection/maintenance program. Modis consultants developed and maintained Web-based systems for the Division. These systems consist of fees and facilities, an application tracking system-(ATS) for the permitting process, permit writer and emission inventory. The Division used the following Application Development tools; Java, JSP, Servlets, BEA Weblogic, Visual Café and Oracle 8i.
