AIX (Advanced Interactive eXecutive) is an IBM proprietary operating system (OS). AIX System Administrators are versed with the AIX OS and likely have familiarity with other varieties of Unix and Linux. As with other system administrator positions, the AIX System Administrator needs to have a strong background in server management including hardware procurement and installation, software installation and configuration, as well as day-to-day user management, backup, and system monitoring.
Administrators will need to be familiar with networking concepts in order to support client and server connectivity. Candidates should be able to perform scripting and have strong Unix command line skills in order to set scheduled chron jobs, set environment parameters, and perform software installation and configuration.
Troubleshooting should include the ability to perform problem determination and research, and coordinate with vendors to resolve issues. The AIX Administrator will need to work with the IT team as well as the business user community and therefore strong communication skills are important. For most jobs, AIX certification is preferred but may not be required.
