A Windows system administrator is responsible for maintaining the operational status of a Windows computer system or network. The individual works closely with other members of the information technology department within the company. The duties of Windows system administrators range across the spectrum of individual Windows operating system adjustments to controlling the foundations of the entire network. They are charged with the installation of new updates and systems as well as support and logistics for the company. He or she will maintain the Windows-based servers. Occasionally, duties such as scripting and light programming may be required. The individual should be versed in a variety of project management systems as well as network-related infrastructure projects. The candidate may be required to supervise or train other members of the staff on operating system options and various aspects of program functions with Windows and Microsoft applications. He or she must demonstrate substantial skills and technical responsibility. Generally a Windows system administrator has achieved Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certification.
