Mainframe Programmer Jobs

Mainframe programmers write, analyze and maintain computer programs on large centralized computers used for processing large amounts of data. Consequently, mainframe programmers typically work in large organizations that process a large quantity of data. These organizations hire professionals who are able to design, test and support the development and/or maintenance of the mainframe system and projects.

Historically, 85 percent of the mainframe programming is written in COBOL and approximately 90 percent of the mainframe computer market share is held by IBM. Most organizations require at least an associate degree and one or two years of experience either in COBOL, JCL, DB/2 and application design.
