PeopleSoft developers formulate and define a system’s scope and objectives. He or she analyzes business procedures and develops specifications to be converted to application code. Professionals in a PeopleSoft position can be responsible for training junior level personnel, preparing proposals and recommendations, providing technical leadership, conducting assurance testing, preparing documentation, leading complex projects, conducting studies of new systems, and coding, testing, and installing.

Some of the skills needed to be a PeopleSoft programmer/analyst are a high level of programming proficiency, an understanding of HRMS application, great communication skills, experience with troubleshooting, good team building skills, and a bachelor's degree in computer science.
