Technical trainers conduct courses designed to teach participants how to use a specific form of technology. The courses taught by technical trainers include software applications such as Microsoft Word, hardware functionality such as MAC training, or programming languages such as C# or JAVA. Technical trainers are employed by technology companies, professional training groups and by companies that are large enough to keep technical trainers on staff.
Courses facilitated by the technical trainer are delivered on-line or in the classroom and are generally tied to specific learning objectives. In many cases, the technical trainers are responsible for or assist with developing the materials themselves requiring proficiency with graphics and audio software. All of these efforts are designed to enable the technical trainer to explain the functionality and purpose of the material being presented.
