Position: Application Support Engineer - Kronos
Duration: 4-6 Months Contract To Hire
Pay: $40 - $50/hr

Modis Burbank is seeking an Application Support Engineer – Kronos.  Under the direction of the Application Support Manager, the Application Support Engineer (ASE) – Kronos is responsible for supporting applications and systems used by employees, with emphasis on the Electronic Timekeeping system. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting business process engineering tasks, systems analysis, requirements analysis, design, implementation, and testing, as well as responding to End User Computing (EUC) tickets and creating technical documentation. The ASE continues enhancing his or her skill sets in interpersonal relationships, software engineering practices, and processes. The ASE recommends systems development standards, operating procedures, tools, and technologies. The ASE works in a collegial manner with customers, internal teams, and management to achieve results. Some overtime and weekend work may be required to meet deadlines or respond to emergencies.
ASE candidates must have a passion for enabling business through technology.
Kronos Application Support 60%
• Application administrator responsible for the client-wide Kronos Time and Attendance System implementation and management.
• Collaborates with divisions, departments, and other client organizational units on implementation and training needs, and develops appropriate rules and settings within the Kronos system. Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business processes, user needs, and technology opportunities and limitations, and provides a detailed description of requirements and steps needed to develop and implement solutions.
• Provides technical and analytical guidance to the client, and may devise or recommend procedures or technical solutions to solve complex problems involving business needs, the Kronos application, migration/integration of data, the end user computing environment, and desired results for current and future personnel/payroll processes.
• Provides guidance and performs configuration and testing of Kronos software for client, including authentication, security roles and permissions, calculation of hours, assignment of jobs, accrual policies, and email notification workflow.
• Provides technical support for Kronos content and system integration issues, data conflicts, inappropriate data usage, and system inconsistencies or discrepancies. Investigates and resolves issues to ensure accuracy and integrity of data.
• Initiates and supports the development of additional custom data interfaces. Creates detailed specifications for data interfaces, and works with information technology staff to develop database strategies and interfaces to support Kronos needs.
• Serves as a lead consultant to all campus payroll staff on the design and day-to-day administration of Kronos records, e.g., users, jobs, timecards, accruals, schedules, notification emails, and skills and competencies.
General Application Support 20%
• Serves as an administrator and subject matter expert for business applications, e.g., Electronic Timekeeping, Financial System applications, etc.
• As necessary, supports Project Management Office implementation of business applications.
• Collaborates with Development team members to transition identified application defects or application enhancements to improve the user experience.
• Collaborates with divisions, departments, and other client organizational units on implementation and training needs.
• Responds to EUC tickets, troubleshoots application-related problems, and provides exceptional customer service.
• Assists/manages application installations and upgrades.
• Documents application configurations and operating procedures.
• Ensures that business applications are accessible and provides an optimal user experience.
• Keeps business applications secure and in line with best practices.
• Keeps current with business technologies and recommends new technologies for implementation.
• Participates in off-hours support and maintenance as necessary.
• Attends training sessions, seminars, meetings and other related functions as required.
• Assists staff in unit with use of application to automate or execute their business processes.
• Develops data extractions or reports from requests or requirements stated by clients.
• Uses database, report writer, data mart, or specialized applications to generate reports or analyses.
• May support application(s) in production.
• Notes interruptions or bugs in operation, and performs troubleshooting to determine problems and ensure continued use of the application.
• Tracks production issues, and reports periodically to group charged with monitoring uptime and efficiency of production application.
• Participates in project meetings to plan revisions to application.
Quality Assurance 10%
• Facilitates system software upgrades including planning, scheduling, coordinating, and testing.
• Works with internal technology teams to synchronize individual efforts and timing of deliverables for modifications and upgrades.
• Is responsible for testing functionality and validating information to ensure accuracy and integrity of data and system.
• Provides guidance to client, division, and department staff.
• Ensures adherence to labor and personnel policies and reviews project deliverables.
• Troubleshoots and tests support issues and coordinates migration activities between testing and production environments, including assisting in the development of data interfaces, conversion, testing, and data integrity.
Project Administration 10%
• Works directly with customers to facilitate maintenance and enhancement requests to Enterprise Technology Services. Tasks include the following:
o Prepares and provides work estimates.
o Manages customer expectations.
o Recommends or establishes schedules.
o Generates progress and status reports.
o Conducts and attends regular meetings with customers and other agencies to ensure adequate coordination and planning on projects and work requests.
Required/Minimum Skills
• BA/BS in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One or more of the following competencies:
o Basic understanding of SQL Server 2008 (and up) relational database management systems, stored procedures, and queries.
o Basic understanding of third-party controls and tools.
o Basic understanding of IT Service Management tool.
o Understanding of Web technologies like HTML, XML, JavaScript, and PHP.
• Must be proficient in the use of the MS Office tool set.
• Good verbal and written communication skills, client relation skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Desired Skills
• Proven experience executing enterprise-wide implementation of Kronos 7.x or Kronos 8.x in Payroll, Time, Attendance, Absence, and Leave modules.
• 2+ years in Kronos Workforce Central version 7.0.x or 8.x application administration and configuration, including navigator, access profiles, display profiles, labor levels, valid labor accounts, pay policies, accruals, hyperfind queries, record manager, and DCM device management.
• Experience with multiple HRIS Full Life Cycle implementations and upgrades with large corporate systems.
• Experience working directly with customers to understand their business needs and facilitate the translation of those business needs into a set of systematic specifications for configuration in Kronos Time, Absence, and Leave modules.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with executive and project level communication and reporting experience.
• Understanding of Kronos Mobile Solution.
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft HCM Integration.
• Experience gathering requirements and developing outbound and inbound WIM interfaces.
• Experience with Kronos service pack and version upgrades in a multi-server environment.
• Experience with SQL databases and proficiency with SQL queries.
• Experience with time and attendance requirements in higher education.
• Ability to develop test plans and execute test cases with careful attention to accuracy and detail.
