To that end, Modis currently has an immediate need for several DIRECT HIRE Sr. Systems Architects in the St. Louis, MO area.
Candidates must be open to 25% travel.

  • The Systems Architect is responsible for all aspects of the architectural design for the communication product line.
  • As part of this responsibility, the architect will work closely with marketing to define a technology road-map that is aligned with marketing’s product road-map.
  • The architect will work with the Lead Systems Engineers to ensure that products under development adhere to architecture standards or, if there are compromises necessary due to schedule constraints, properly communicate the trade-offs to management.
  • An important role for the systems architect is the ability to communicate design decisions and product trade-offs to both a business and technical audience.


  • Participates in the development of council deliverables (systems vision, standards and interfaces to adopt, platform usage guidelines, etc.)
  • Makes recommendations on improvements and optimizations for platforms
  • Updates council on key design and architectural decisions made
  • Formally presents architectural design to council for preliminary and critical review prior to Tollgate1 (TG1) and Tollgate 2(TG2) respectively
  • Brings architectural or cross platform issues to council for review and decision making
  • New Product Introduction (NPI) Involvement
  • Works with Product Management in Phase 0 and 1 to develop conceptual design alternatives based on technical requirements and business needs
  • Performs trade off studies for down selection of architectural alternatives for TG1
  • Provides top level requirement allocations and interface definitions in Phase 2
  • Reviews of acceptance test criteria to ensure architectural requirements are covered
  • Develops and maintains system models for program support through all phases
  • Performs necessary system analyses for program support through all phases
  • Provides guidance to design and test teams as necessary through all phases


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Systems Engineering
  • A minimum of ten (10) years industry experience in which analysis of complex systems was an important part of the job
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in defining complex products working with the hardware, software and system level requirements for the product
  • Advanced analytical skills demonstrated in the analysis and definition of complex systems
  • Ability to interface with systems and implementation engineers to manage issues associated with design concepts or implementation
  • Highly motivated self-starter, capable of working independently and able to drive concepts to completion
  • Experienced in the use of personal computers in a normal office environment including MS Word, Visio, Office, and Excel programming language (C, Basic, etc.)
  • Electronic communication systems background
  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Electronic hardware and software development experience
  • Involvement in standards development
  • Experience in architectural design for large, complex systems.
