Overview
 

  • Under the direction of the Corporate IT Director, the Director of Applications provides direction and leadership to Clinical and Business Application teams engaged in the implementation and maintenance of all ITS projects to include large, complex and/or critical applications and systems across multiple facilities, departments, vendors, and infrastructure technologies.

 
Responsibilities
 

  • Development and maintenance of road maps to plan and manage application life cycle throughout the system.
  • Responsible for managing both clinical and business application teams developing the overall strategies to support short term and long term application management.
  • Work closely with the application teams, business and clinical units, and leadership to execute the application roadmap programs and plans within the defined budget and timeline.
  • Research and keep current with the latest technologies; and identify new solutions to business and technical requirements.
  • Work across the organization to lead the design, development, and implementation of new or improved business processes and workflows.
  • Manage Applications staff, including hiring, training, evaluation, guidance, and discipline.
  • Supports professional growth and advancement for direct reports and their teams
  • Maintains a highly competent staff to meet the objectives and strategies of the business. Provides leadership to departmental employees by practicing fair and consistent treatment while enforcing staff compliance with departmental and corporate policies
  • Develop the IT staff to meet the changing needs of users, groups and offices; new projects and technologies; and varying staff strengths
  • Has financial responsibility for application operations and budget, as well as outlining the cost and ROI for the application strategy and working closely with the business units and company leadership
  • Participates in account budget/forecast/strategy meetings and execution
  • Supervises completion of departmental or system-wide projects according to time schedules and budgets developed in conjunction with the customer
  • Maintains open communication and collaborative working relationships with customer facing leaders and service lines
  • Manage outsourced information technology and outsourced security providers
  • Ability to apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide his/her development team on issues related to the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical information and software systems
  • Ensure that any new software integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications
  • Responsible for business strategy and planning to ensure the IT Applications Group has the appropriate resources, budget and tools to provide the highest level of customer service
  • Ensures 7×24 on call support for the application infrastructure and customer support.
  • Works with the network, server, and other technical infrastructure operations teams to maintain an optimal applications operating environment.

 
Qualifications
 

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Business, IT, or Healthcare highly preferred; equivalent work experience accepted as well though
  • Eight (8) to ten (10) years’ experience in healthcare applications including EHR, preferably Cerner Millennium / Epic
  • Minimum five (5) years in a management position responsible for installation, maintenance and security of major healthcare computer applications preferably Cerner / Epic
  • Strong working knowledge of Information Technology and Information Systems
  • Strong working knowledge/experience of Healthcare applications (Preferably Cerner Millennium / Epic)
  • Understanding of software maintenance lifecycle
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills
  • Cross functional solution development expertise
  • Demonstrated cross functional teamwork and collaboration
  • Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Excellent analytical skills to discuss problems, analyze solutions/options, evaluate and enable improved processes
  • Leadership skills such as coaching, and conflict resolutions to aide in the development of departmental personnel
  • Superior organization and planning skills and excellent communication skills on all levels
