Modis Engineering, an Adecco group company is currently recruiting for a Failure Analysis Engineer job located in Mountain View, CA for a 12 month contract.

The failure analysis engineer will work independently to identify root cause and implement design or process changes to ensure reliability of self-driving system hardware. This role would support new product development, as well as field returns of parts from exist platform.

Top Responsibilities:
- Work with field reliability to determine top issues and determine root cause and corrective actions needed to reduce or eliminate their occurrence.
- Develop clear understanding for all failures seen in test and work with reliability test and design engineers to mitigate any impact they would have in the field or risk to product development.
- Collaborate with manufacturing quality and operations teams to understand fallout seen in assembly, burn-in, and installation to improve overall yield.

Additional Responsibilities:
- Work within the reliability group to support root cause identification for failures seen in manufacturing, field, and test
- Examination of samples using optical microscope, SEM, x-ray and other standard failure analysis techniques
- Sample preparation for advanced failure analysis (disassembly, desoldering, potting, dicing, polishing, etc).
- Coordinating failure analysis activities with labs both internal and outside of Alphabet
- Detailed inspection of field replacements parts to look for unexpected defects or different behaviors or trends than what would be expected from reliability testing.
- Perform failure replication test by using lab test equipment

Required Qualifications:
- BA degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry and/or related discipline
- Two+ years of experience in a Failure Analysis, Reliability or Manufacturing Engineering role
- Experienced with optical microscope, thermal camera, dye and pry, solder station, multimeter, oscilloscope, cross-sectioning
- Knowledge of analytical techniques (SEM/EDS, XRF, ion chromatography, FTIR, etc)
- Experienced with chemical handling, materials etching, decapsulation
- Problem solving abilities
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once
- Ability to complete tests and resolve problems in an unattended and timely manner
- Flexibility and adaptability to accept new tasks

Nice to have skills:
- MS degree Engineering, Physics or Chemistry and/or related discipline
- Familiarity with electrical and optical components and modules
- Experience with board assembly process
- Experience with electrical hardware and / or automotive components
- Experience with reliability statistics and methods (Weibull, DoE, ALT, FTA, etc)
- Understanding of physics of failure
