An Instrumentation/Test Engineering Assistant job in Mount Vernon, WA is available courtesy of Modis Engineering. This position requires familiarity with electronic instrumentation and operation and ability to read and understand engineering drawings of electrical and mechanical equipment, test fixtures, and assemblies. This position is 6+ months but will convert to a direct position with the client with solid performance. The pay rate is $25.00 to $35.00 per hour.

Instrumentation/Test Engineering Assistant job responsibilities include:
- Assist test engineers in testing components and systems of products.
- Sets up test controllers and related instrumentation in the Structures Laboratory with assistance from senior specialists.
- Maintains Structural Lab equipment for safe and repeatable operation.
- Read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Assist engineers in set-up of test assemblies.
- Conducts tests of components and assemblies to determine product reliability and performance.
- Set up plotters and strip chart recorders.
- Monitor tests and record data.
- Operate all basic electronic controllers and instrumentation required for component testing.
- Utilize computers and software as necessary.
- Fabricate test fixtures as needed.
- Acts as project manager on test set-up and implementation projects.
Organizes and conducts tests of components and assemblies to determine product reliability.
- Installs, checks, calibrates and operates electronic controllers and instrumentation for component testing.
- Fosters good communications.
- Continually expands technical expertise as related to company products and testing methods.
- Ensures that work area cleanliness is maintained.
- Observes safety policies.
- Remains alert for possible safety hazards in won work as well as in work of others.
- Maintains knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets for hazardous chemicals used on the job.
- Lab test work will include changing test specimens, installing instrumentation in and around vehicles.
- Work is reviewed for accuracy, completeness and soundness of technical judgement.
- Other duties as required.

- Associate’s degree or higher, or equivalent experience.
- Good mathematical skills.
- Basic knowledge of general engineering and electrical theory and practices.
- Able to use power and hand tools.
- Ability to effectively communicate in writing.
- Ability to communicate verbally, with the ability to work as part of a team and accept direction from peers.
- Good organizational skills.
- Able to plan, organize and schedule work flow.
- Ability to work with ship tools, lab equipment, large vehicle components and some work with computers.
- Ability to work in a variety of environments including high temperature, humidity, cold temperatures, high noise and working around operating vehicles and servo-hydraulic equipment with the proper safety equipment.
- Required to wear safety glasses equipment in designated areas.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 25 pounds and push/pull 125 pounds.
- Repetitive bending, stooping and kneeling.
- Good manual dexterity.
- Ability to work around electronics.
- Ability to work with or around solvents, degreasing agents, greases, oils, paints and solder with proper safety equipment.
- Good vision/depth perception with or without corrective lenses.
