Job Duties:
 


  • Devise new approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems
  • Provide documentation and makes technical presentations as required
  • May represent the organization as the prime technical contact
  • Provide direction to design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff
  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company
  • Required expertise/experience:
  • Parallel axis gears (spur and helical) – we use mostly spur gears, but experience with helical gears should be useful
  • Epicyclic / Planetary gear design
  • High precision aircraft quality gearing (AGMA Quality 10-12) focus on fine pitch ( 72DP – 20DP)
  • Various manufacturing methods (hobbed, shaped, ground), heat-treat and other surface treatment methods (carburize, nitriding, through-hardened, shot peening, etc.)
  • Gear profile modification, gear housing design, temperature/center distance analysis, GD&T / tolerance stack analysis
  • Spline design (ANSI 92.1)
  • Gear tooth inspection methods
  • Gear/spline life calculations
  • Familiarity with common gear failure modes (pitting, scoring, fatigue, overload, and lubrication)
  • Bearing Design (bearing types such as radial ball, thrust ball, cylindrical roller, tapered roller, needle roller, etc., bearing arrangement, limiting speeds, noise considerations, sealing, lubrication types, advantages and disadvantages)
  • Calculating bearing load carrying capability and service life (also fatigue life calculations)
  • Aircraft gear/bearing/screw lubrication experience – balancing lubrication / extreme pressure properties with performance at temperature extremes
  • Familiarity with ANSI/AGMA standards (AGMA 2001-D04, AGMA 2000 A88, AGMA 6123-C16 among others)

Job Qualifications
Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD.
Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving
advanced technical engineering problems.
Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.

Gear Design software: Kissoft, UTS/IGS/TK Solver, PowerGear, etc.
FEA / CAD
Worm Gears, Rack & Pinion, Bevel, Sprial Bevel, Hypoid and other 90° gears
Gear-motor integration
Leadscrew (Ballscrew, Rollerscrew, ACME screw, etc.)
Compound / Differential Gear design
Dither/micromotion analysis / failure investigation/design
