A PCB Designer job in north San Diego, CA is available through Modis Engineering for a direct-client of ours. We are looking for a senior PCB Designer experience in very complex PCB design and excellent CAD skills. So are you ready for your next challenge? This is a 6 month contract-to-hire opportunity with one of our largest clients in the DOD industry, paying a competitive salary.
PCB Designer Job Summary:

Provides leadership in developing practicable and innovative PC board design solutions for assigned complex products and components of products.
Interacts with engineering staff on PC board design concepts and progress.
May be assigned PC board design oversight of a project or program.
Using CAD specialty engineering design software, develops complex PC board layouts and drawings, and details related structural assemblies and devices.
Validates conformity to design standards and specifications and identifies design errors and other deficiencies, and recommends changes.
Makes engineering computations and develops designs utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software, writes specifications, and makes adjustments in drawings and specifications.
Provides documentation including schematics and PC board layouts, identifies design issues, and makes technical design presentations to engineering staff and customers as required.
Archives engineering data files per company configuration control procedures, and interacts with PCB vendors to coordinate the manufacturing of PC boards and electronic assemblies.
May provide direction to less experienced PC board designers and support staff.
Remains current in CAD techniques, ANSI Y4.15 drawing principles, IPC Standards or equivalent, as well as appropriate specialty design software and associated applications.
May perform minor electronic assembly, rework and assist in testing completed electronic assemblies in the lab.
Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Required Skills:

Typically requires an Associates degree or a training certificate from a recognized organization indicating completion of training in basic electronics technology and in CAD design software and four or more years of progressive experience designing PC boards utilizing CAD engineering design software.
Additional experience designing PC boards may be substituted in lieu of education.
Must have a complete and in-depth understanding and wide application of PC board design concepts and drawing principles, including ANSI Y4.15 and IPC Standards, and demonstrate a very high skill level using CAD engineering software.
Must be able to organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases.
Must also be able to determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide creative solutions to a wide range of highly complex problems.
Must have strong communication, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills while being able to work independently and as part of a team,
Must be able to trouble-shoot and test basic electronic assemblies, and be able to solder basic electronic components to a PC boards if needed.
Experience with Engineering Change Processes, i.e. ECP, ECR, ECN… (desired).
Experience with Altium software (desired).
Experience with PADS software (desired).
