Pre Authorization Specialist job in Raleigh, NC
The Pre-Authorization Specialist verifies insurance coverage, and obtains Pre-Authorization for medical testing and medications for RNA patients. The employee must be knowledgeable in medical insurance billing, and medical terminology to be successful.
Essential Job Functions
• Verify insurance eligibility, and coverage
• Read patient charts and independently identify relevant information
• Obtain required Pre-Authorizations and Pre-Determinations
• Build case management , and document authorization in the appointment note field  
• Communicate with team lead and/or supervisor on insurance carrier delays, and denial
• Communicate effectively with RNA physicians and nurses when additional information is required
• Communicate with patients regarding delay in obtaining authorization in timely manner
• Communicate with departments regarding delay in obtaining authorizations in timely manner
• Review and scan mail, and fax correspondence
• Answer Messages via Electronic Health Record
• Answer incoming calls
• Minimum 1 Year of Experience obtaining Medical Pre Authorizations  
• Medical Terminology
Other Skills/Abilities
• Excellent Time Management and Multi-tasking Abilities
• Knowledgeable about medical terminology, including familiarity with ICD-10
• Detail Oriented
