A Contract Engineering Lab Technician Job in Islandia, NY is currently available courtesy of Modis Engineering. In order to be considered for this opportunity you must have 1-2 years’ experience working in a mechanical lab setting. You will be supporting the R&D team by building/setting up equipment, preparing and conducting experiments, collecting data, calculating and recording results, and help engineers in other ways, such as assisting in sourcing prototype versions of newly designed orthodontic appliances.

Engineering Lab Tech responsibilities include:

Ensures compliance to the company’s Global Innovation Process and divisional level procedures.
Performs mechanical testing (hands-on), dimensional analysis, and visual testing using approved work instructions
Conducts measurement system analyses (gage R&R studies)
Analyzes the data using Minitab
Trains other lab techs and interns, executes the protocol, collect and analyze data and write reports and memos as requested by experienced engineer
Analyzes testing problems to achieve optimal solutions that satisfy technical requirements using internal contacts
Create or modify design for testing fixtures and product components.
Work with internal and external services to manufacture fixtures and prototypes
Formulates new, innovative approaches to solve technical problems on a consistent basis.
Follows engineering and quality process (for example, six sigma design methodologies).
Responsible for determining the necessary control required for handling and usage of material, tooling and equipment used to ensure they are operated within manufacturer’s specifications.

Qualifications:

1 -4 year experience working as a lab technician (mechanical testing) required.
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations required.
The use of optical comparators, digital calipers, and Instron tensile testing and fixture development required.
Experience with statistical analysis software is preferred.
Experience with CAD software is preferred (Solidworks, Pro-E)
Medical device background a plus.
Design Control knowledge a plus.
Capable of reading and understanding drawings, manuals, and engineering specifications.
Familiarity with ISO standards, GMP, and OSHA regulations.
Must be detail oriented and have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Must be a self-starter, independent and be able to work in a fast paced and challenging environment.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Dependability and ability to adapt to change are essential.
