Senior Cloud Systems Administrator
Administrative Systems is one of central IT organizations, providing computing and communication infrastructure and support for the teaching, learning and business activities of the organization.  
The Senior Cloud Systems Administrator is a member of the Windows Infrastructure and Cloud Collaboration team in Administrative Systems, and is primarily responsible for the operation, configuration and security of email and Windows OS infrastructure. The team owns campus instances of Active Directory, Windows Servers, Microsoft Office 365, as well as Google Suite and other cloud applications.  This is a key position within IT, and is expected to provide technical expertise in a highly distributed technical environment.
The Senior Cloud Systems Administrator will work closely as part of the team to develop, plan, support and secure the email and Windows infrastructure.  He or she will provide technical expertise on system designs, be responsible for implementation, and be expected to solve unique and complex operational problems with Active Directory, Windows OS application servers, Exchange Server, Office 365, Federated Services, Google Suite, and other cloud infrastructure components. He or she will also assist in the management and design of cloud services, Active Directory and Windows server environments. This position will help to ensure that they meets with current best practices, meets the needs of multiple organizations, and positions us to meet future technological developments both from SaaS/Iaas providers and from the campus community. Additional responsibilities include:
· Design, develop, install, configure, administer, and maintain highly scalable, available, and elastic solutions that implement industry best practices using AWS, Microsoft Azure, GCP and on premise hardware.
· Understanding of Infrastructure as Code concepts, feels comfortable managing and provisioning computer data centers through machine-readable definition files.
· Install and configure virtual cloud instances in AWS, Azure, or GCP.
· Support on prem and cloud servers, including security configurations, patching, and troubleshooting.
· Resolve system emergencies with impact on the integrity of user data and systems.
· Follow, design, configure, implement, and maintain system security strategies, policies, and procedures.
· Establish software/hardware standards as well as systems policies and procedures.
· Engage in long-term strategic planning with regard to systems development and integration.
· Conceptualize and implement systems within broad technical or structural frameworks.
· Perform capacity planning for system configuration, software services, network services, load distribution, and service interrelationships among computer systems.
· Develop scripts for automating client/server functions as well as monitor those automated systems recovery solutions.
· Act as project owner on large-scale computing projects in which strong technical and directional skills are necessary.
· Manage vendor relationships and cost effective hardware and software maintenance agreements with vendors.
· Support infrastructure deployment models, including Private, Public, and Hybrid.
· Maintaining a general level of expertise in Code Green, ProofPoint, Active Directory, Exchange, Office 365, Azure, AWS, GCP, and other Windows based technologies.
· Ability to configure VMs and Web Applications through Azure Web Portal and Command Line Interface through PowerShell
· Establishing and maintaining key client interaction and support, providing administrative reporting on the infrastructure to IT management.
· Collaborating with other members of IT, to ensure that our services meet operations requirements for both internal and external clients, and ensuring that standards for consistent documentation are met.  The successful candidate will need to work productively as a team member and participate in a collaborative decision making process.
· Participating in 24x7 on-call support rotation.
· Document and follow processes and procedures for the Windows infrastructure and systems.  
· Collaborating with the team on future direction and opportunities for new technology.
· Establishing equipment requirements and budget proposals, tracking hardware and software expenses against projections, and staying current with platform, application, & industry developments for Windows systems and email systems.
· Effective and timely communication with clients both in and outside IT is required, including understanding client business needs and developing operational strategies to meet these needs.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant Windows server experience, plus one year cloud infrastructure experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Experience with complex multi-system platforms and vendors.
· Experience working in AWS and Azure. (GCP a plus.)
· Experience coordinating multi-system and computing environments in independent computing facilities.
· Knowledge of various Cloud service models, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
· Experience developing/implementing a business continuation and disaster recovery plan.
· Proven ability to develop appropriate plans to meet computing needs.
· Expert ability to program in multiple programming languages in multiple operating systems.
· Proven ability to lead and work on large/complex system deployment projects in a team environment.
· Advanced knowledge of security trends and best practices.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work calmly and effectively in pressure situations and manage time effectively in a changing environment, strong conceptual and logical abilities and strong planning and project abilities.
· Demonstrated experience in managing complex environments and ability to focus on customer requirements.
· Ability to operate within a collaborative team framework both in the workgroup and across IT Services.  
· Ability to creatively apply a unique combination of skills & knowledge to the support and maintenance of the systems environment
· Must be able to work as an independent, productive, responsible, self-motivated member of operational and project teams, often simultaneously.
· Extensive hands-on experience supporting Windows systems in 24 x 7 enterprise environments. Comprehensive understanding of server and networking hardware and infrastructure.
· Understanding and experience with information security in a distributed computing environment.
· Demonstrated experience supporting a Windows Infrastructure, with strong expertise in Active Directory, Windows OSes, and email.
· Demonstrated experience managing Windows-based systems and services at scale.  Experience with maintaining Linux-based systems and services a plus.
· Ability to automate common system administration and management tasks through Windows PowerShell.
· Experience managing systems via Microsoft System Center Operations Manager and System Center Configuration Manager.
· Understanding and ability to promptly diagnose and remedy cloud related problems and failures.
· Comfort with public speaking is a plus.  He or she should be able to give a detailed technical presentation.
