Senior Network Engineer job in Research Triangle Park, NC
6-month contract role with a great team and great manager

We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer to develop and maintain functional and secure networks. You will work on a team of engineers to implement, troubleshoot and optimize our networks.
In this role, you should have excellent problem-solving skills and thorough knowledge of network administration and architecture. The successful candidate will implement networks that support our computational science and data insights communities.
Responsibilities
• Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
• Configure and install software, servers, routers and other network devices
• Provide network solutions for both local data center and cloud-based (AWS) systems
• Monitor network performance and integrity
• Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness
• Mentor team members on technical issues
• Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. access authentication and disaster recovery)
• Communicate with users when needed
• Maintain complete technical documentation
• Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability
Requirements
• Industry-related experience as a Senior Network Engineer
• Expertise with Cisco, Meraki, Palo Alto technologies and high bandwidth circuits
• Internet 2 or other Layer 2 circuit provisioning is a plus
• Experience with load balancing and firewalls for internet facing applications
• Professional certifications (e.g. CCNP, CCDP, PCNSE)
• NAS experience (NetApp / StorageGrid)
• Advanced knowledge on AWS environments and services
• In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF)
• Experience with VPN, DMVPN, and certificate-based authentication (SSL)
• Familiarity with access control models, identity management, and network security
• Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g Python, Perl)
• Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SPLUNK)
• Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco IOS & NxOS)
• Cisco UCS/ACI experience
• Advanced troubleshooting skills
• Ability to travel (less than 25%)
• BS in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
