The Sr Systems Engineer will be responsible for engineering leadership and being the point person for the Platform Services Team. They are responsible engineering, maintaining administrating, and supporting all required servers on all platforms, SAN, SAN Fabric, Virtual environment, and applications that run on these environments. This position reports to Manager, IT Technology Services.
Leads a team of system engineers and/or system administrators that support our multiple OS platforms, SAN, and virtual infrastructure and the support of a 3000 user environment.
Provides technical leadership for complex related problems within the team and environment.
Responsible for performance management and capacity planning reporting for all supported platforms, along with providing monthly, quarterly and yearly reports for all responsible environments.
Interacts with Network Communications and DBA Team
Interact with other IT groups to implement new servers and applications and resolve problems with current systems and applications.  This includes system sizing and configuration, installing applications to standards, developing shell scripts to automate functions such as log file rotation and monitoring, and working in conjunction with application support team and application vendors as needed.
Perform  the operational activities and availability of the production SAN, SAN fabric, Servers,  and SAN, applications and data backup platforms and address/resolve any reported issues in a timely fashion
Provide backup support across other technologies, including UNIX, Red Hat Linux, database and network, via both formal and on the job training.  
Remain current on emerging technologies and possible application at NFI
Develop creative solutions to meet business needs and reduce operational costs, such as server consolidation, storage management, etc
Identify on-going improvement opportunities.
Perform service restoration in event of issue including working with external vendors to ensure timely response to problems.
Serve as point of contact to internal and external customers through problem resolution
Perform ongoing operational activities, problem management, user assistance and training as necessary
Perform ongoing upgrades and patches as required
Provide off-hours support as required to perform job functions and ensure service delivery
Automation of standard activities in cooperation with Support Services to develop first level problem procedures.  Develop methods of issue avoidance, notification, and resolution.
Write and update technical documentation.
Assist in development and testing of disaster recovery plans.
Project related activities including domain and email consolidation and migration and others as appropriate.
Understanding of security impacts of actions and adherence to company guidelines
Assist in development and modification of security guidelines
Assist in development of departmental policies and procedures
Define and assist in deployment of Process Improvements
Assist in continuous development of Support Services procedures and staff

Degree - BA / BS preferred
4+ years’ experience supporting complex Windows based network infrastructures, EMC SAN, and SAN Fabrics
Experience with VMWare
Experience with Red Hat Linux
Experience with system backup environments
Experience with Microsoft tools (Google Apps, AD, SMS, etc)
Microsoft certification a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
