Modis Burbank is seeking an experienced Financial Systems Business Analyst Techno-Functional Consultant (Remote)

Job Description

Financial Systems Business Analyst Techno-Functional Consultant is responsible for the development of new financial applications to support the complex needs of the Budget & Planning department. In addition, the Financial Systems Business Analyst will support the development and implementation of mission critical financial analysis tools that will be widely used for financial analysis and reporting across the enterprise. This position serves as a technical resource and works on accounting and data management projects of moderate to advanced complexity where analysis of accounting structure or data structure requires in depth evaluation of various factors.

Key responsibilities for this role include the following:

  • Coordinates the design, modification, and implementation of financial systems, data solutions, and related systems and processes.
  • Collaborates with other department subject matter experts to understand, identify and select available and relevant sources of data for reporting and analyses.
  • Prepares and presents comprehensive evaluations, proposals and recommendations to executive management, advisory committees, and departments across campus.
  • The ideal candidate has a high level of proficiency in database and query tools such as SQL Server, Excel, Access, Tableau and Hyperion. Candidate will possess a solid understanding of accounting and working knowledge of financial statements and accounting transactions. Will possess the ability to work under deadline pressure, handling multiple projects concurrently, and dealing with sensitive and confidential issues.

    Job Functions and Duties

    Systems Analysis, Architecture and Maintenance – 75%

    Analyzes and architects highly complex custom databases and reports drawing from numerous internal data sources based on needs and strategic recommendations. Continuously and systematically reviews systems and processes, identifies needs regarding system design and reporting to comply with changes to downstream systems, policies and control requirements.

    Collaborates with division and partners to plan, design, test and implement analytical systems. Works on issues that impact project success while addressing future concepts of dependent systems at various stages of the systems development life cycle. Participates in multiple cross-functional teams to address complex business and systems issues. Creates functional specifications and reviews technical specifications. Creates test scripts and plans for implementing new systems, upgrades and process improvements. Troubleshoots issues and test resolutions to approve for production environment. Creates training documents and scenarios for systems integration and user acceptance testing.

    Formulates and defines complex systems scope and objectives. Analyzes business processes and problems to understand and validate functional business requirements to meet end-user needs. Gather, analyze and document functional business requirements. Utilize Lean principles to make informed recommendations for business process improvement prior to implementation of technical solutions. Works closely with application developers to help determine any new requirements or modifications to software systems.

    Analytics and Special Reports – 25%

    Supports the resource planning and management functions of the Budget and Planning department primarily in the following areas:

  • Long Range Financial planning: Assists in the development of database tools to evaluate financial performance and perform supporting analysis that will be used by senior management.
  • Investment Income Management: Assists in monitoring earnings and returns in working capital investment products.
  • Expenditure Assessment Programs: Assists in the development and implementation of the budget and department support assessments.
  • Assists the Directors of FP&A and Budget office with the management of single operating funds.
  • Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts, database design, and enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Experience with using data visualization and analysis tools such as Excel, Tableau, Hyperion, Cognos and PowerBI.
  • Deep knowledge of financial statements and accounting concepts and an eagerness to learn new technical and accounting skills.
  • Exceptional ability to think analytically and logically with a passion for data and technology to help support organizational challenges.
  • Experience cleaning and evaluating data sets for analytical consumption.
  • Prior coding experience in a modern software language is essential.
  • Skilled at explaining and summarizing technical information to non-technical people.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Contributes to research, planning, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Knowledge relating to software design and ability to contribute to system design work including exploration of new modules, integrations, and user interface designs.
  • Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
  • Education

  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, computer science, or a related field
  • Five years of professional experience as a financial analyst, accountant, auditor, or computer programmer analyst that included participation in the design of financial accounting systems
  • Or a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the required
