This federal government department is seeking a Program Specialist for a 12 month + extension contract in Canberra.

Overview of Role:

The Program Specialist will be responsible for leading a team of project managers, business analysts, technical personnel and program support officials to successfully deliver a Program aimed at delivering transformational change across the department.

The Program Specialist will oversee and coordinate numerous concurrent complex projects by balancing scope, risk, time, cost, and quality and realising program benefits. The role is responsible for ensuring the program and projects are scoped, budgeted, and delivered on time. The position will work closely with the Executive, stakeholders, relevant senior managers, subject matter experts, across numerous business areas within the department, to design and implement new processes and systems, influence a positive change culture across the organisation and deliver changes to organisational capability.

People who are successful in this position must have the following pre-requisites:

  • Highly experienced in the successful delivery of enterprise wide, complex business, IT and change programs, with an emphasis on delivering successful business outcomes.
  • Proven track record in program management, delivery and benefits realisation skills, preferably across multiple projects within a large program of work
  • Extensive experience as a senior executive in a Commonwealth or State government agency leading transformational change.
  • Ability to develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders to influence cultural change across large organisations and/or government departments.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leading organisational change programs.
  • Monitor program performance and drive awareness of opportunities to expand successes or improve offerings.
  • Manage the program's governance and assurance processes.
  • Facilitate decisions required to progress the program and inform the Executive Director & Program Board of any deviations from approved plans and scope.
  • Provide feedback to the Program Board, Executive and senior management team recommending program improvements and highlighting best practices.
  • Monitor program governance and assurance processes, identify and manage risks and resolve issues.
  • Contribute specialist expertise to develop organisational capability and realise the benefits of the program.
  • Engage and engender support for the target state among both internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for the program risk management planning, risk identification, risk quantitative and qualitative analysis, response planning, monitoring, and control activities.
