There are many good reasons to choose a job where you get to work on one project after another. Why would you choose a project-based career? We asked two Modis employees: a consultant/project manager and a Modis talent manager.
After completing her Master’s degree in Commercial Sciences, Eva Boeckx started working at Modis. Project after project, she evolved from being a functional analyst to more of a project manager (PM) – and she now even works on international projects. Read her story here.
1. You get to work on a wide range of projects
“Modis gives you one project after another. No two projects are the same. If you want variation, you’ll get it. So you’re always challenged to learn and develop yourself.”
2. You learn to support people
“Of course, I can speak from my own experience. It’s not always easy to collaborate with people with different profiles in IT. You might even reach a point where everything comes to a standstill. Within agile project management, the concept of self-organising teams is key. You let your teams carry out their own development phase without the PM interfering. However, I often find that my experience as an analyst helps to resolve certain disagreements and ‘escalations’.”
3. You learn something new every day
“In every project, you learn different things. Whether you’re establishing structure, dealing with change management, negotiating with suppliers – as a project manager you will always find yourself in different situations. You gain insights into different technologies, flows, people, situations, escalations, etc. I find that really exciting, even though it’s not always easy.”
A project-based career: is this typically something you do for a limited period of time or can you choose to do that long term? That’s entirely up to you, says talent manager Deborah Gelfged. And there’s no age limit on that.
Deborah Gelfged: “Sometimes we see that consultants want to settle down after a few assignments and they go on to work for one of our customers. In this respect, we are a good gateway to large companies. Other professionals, such as our scientific writers, work on various projects at the same time. Some of our employees have been with us for more than 10 years.”
At Modis, it’s all about you, she says.
“We listen carefully to your expectations and help you to forge your career. As an employee, you will be assigned a talent manager with whom you can communicate openly. With Modis you can expand your knowledge and experience by working for a range of, often large, companies. You can also specialise in a particular area.”
“Modis is a company that has real values and puts people first: teamwork, entrepreneurship and passion are three key words that characterise us. We think it’s important that you feel comfortable here. And that you find a good balance between your personal and professional life.”
