A two-month TAPP (Thermal-Acoustic-Power-Performance Engineer job in San Jose, CA is currently available through Modis Engineering, formally Adecco group. This for an excellent, global renowned client. The salary for the job is $67.06 per hour.

The job:

  • Our Noise & Vibration group works to provide the best user experience possible related to product noise, be it eliminating noises that a user should never hear to ensuring that fans and keyboards sound pleasant.
  • Fan noise, thermals, performance, and battery life are all closely connected.
  •  TAPP (Thermal-Acoustic-Power-Performance) is a cross-functional team that evaluates each Mac product against program targets and determines appropriate tradeoffs when needed.

The N&V TAPP engineer is responsible for:

  • Setting the maximum speed that the fan should run at in order to meet statistical limits,
  • Setting fan ramp rate limits that ensure fan speed changes are not annoying,
  • Supervising testing for acoustic behavior of common workloads,
  • Preparing summary plots of acoustic behavior across a range of workloads, and
  • Helping to determine appropriate noise limits for various usages/products.
  • All these activities are conducted in close coordination with the thermal, performance, and SMC (system management) teams.
  • Understanding customer response to product noise issues is critical to setting appropriate limits.

The N&V AppleCare engineer is responsible for working with the AppleCare team to:

  • Track customer calls related to N&V issues, and prepare summary plots on trends,
  • Read call logs as needed when issues arise, and
  • Develop schemes for automated classification of call logs.

The ideal candidate will have :

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, especially with cross-functional teams, and a good background in statistics.
