Mechanical Engineer - Forward Lighting

An Automotive Lighting Design Engineer position is available in Denton, TX courtesy of Modis Engineering.

Salary: $100 K - $132 K (Open to higher – DOE)

This position will be responsible for engineering design, development, and production support at of vehicle lighting, including but not limited to forward lighting, side indicators, rear lighting, and interior lighting.

Job Functions/ Responsibilities:

  • Working on new development programs, employing innovative skills to evolve ideas from concepts to implementation, providing engineering assistance, assembly / system design, problem resolution, training and other engineering duties supporting various aspects of expedited programs.
  • Identify and initiate designs of a complex nature and conduct necessary research incidental to design.
  • Coordinate with Vehicle Definition, Product Planning, and Styling teams to develop future lighting product concepts.
  • Complete design projects through the processes of planning, concept development, calculation and design analysis, design, testing, evaluation, and implementation.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Manage supplier activities related to design and manufacture of components.
  • Apply knowledge of stress analysis and FEA.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical requirements to support lighting functions.
  • Apply knowledge of various materials and manufacturing processes for lighting components.
  • Research, understand, and stay current with global vehicle lighting legislative requirements
  • Knowledge of CREO (Pro/Engineer) and Windchill functionality.
  • Coordinate and complete projects and design efforts with other engineering groups and departments within the company.
  • Contribute to engineering activity status reports and other detailed reporting as directed.
  • Identify, prioritize, and coordinate resolution of production, production control, and Quality Assurance issues as appropriate.
  • Completion of six sigma documentation in assigned phases of project and applying standard engineering techniques with minimal supervision, occasionally requiring independent evaluation.
  • Apply a proactive approach to defining issues and reaching early resolution and consensus.
  • Demonstrate professional and successful communication skills (verbal/written) with strong, effective interpersonal abilities.
  • Act in a professional manner in all contacts with external and internal customers.
  • Domestic and/or International travel as required.
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics or engineering, preferably mechanical, or electrical
  • 4+ years’ experience developing vehicle lighting components from concept to production.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with vehicle lighting legislative requirements and industry standards including FMVSS108, CMVSS108, SAE, ECE, and ADR requirements.
