Software Engineer Who Wants to be an IT Manager

Modis IT is seeking a Software Engineer for an onsite, permanent position in the Greater Grand Rapids, Michigan area.  This position will be responsible for developing software and maintaining their current systems with the goal of them growing into an IT Manager position.


  • Providing leadership and oversight for the design, implementation, security, and maintenance of Information Technology and telecommunication systems.
  • Planning, monitoring, and ensuring that systems and software are properly designed, installed, secured, and operating effectively.
  • Providing oversight for network and endpoint security, access management, software license compliance, system back-up/disaster recovery plans; and supervising the work of the both IT employees as well as IT contractors.
  • Analyzing business requirements by partnering with leadership to develop solutions for IT needs.
  • Working in close communication, partnership, and support of the various departments other other locations in formulating and recommending IT solutions.
  • Developing strategy, architecture, and processes by creating or modifying forms and modules in the existing VBA database system.
  • Supporting current programs and their connection to the database (invoicing, sales reports).
  • Managing and maintaining EDI software, trading partners, trusted link scripts, and their connection to the database.
  • Establishing, implementing, and maintaining standards, policies, and procedures for the development and use of technology systems.
  • Researching trends in the computer industry and making recommendations regarding hardware and software that would be beneficial to the company.

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience working in developing custom software and leading and managing IT projects
  • Preferred experience as a Visual Basic developer including to design or modify existing software, systems, and applications using VB and related programming languages and ecosystems
  • Working knowledge of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems, and phone systems
  • Ability to lead people and reflect the company culture daily during interactions
