A Cloud Architect job in San Diego, California (Kearny Mesa) is available through Modis. This person is responsible for defining, establishing and maintaining Enterprise Architecture processes, principles, standards, and guidelines for the adoption, optimization, growth, management, and operation of AWS infrastructure and Cloud business applications. Candidates must have enterprise-level experience and  should have knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, or FEAF.

Cloud Architect job responsibilities include:

  • Lead the design and development of cloud-based applications and cloud infrastructure.
  • Establish architectural standards that enable DevOps practices such as infrastructure as code, and automated continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD)
  • Translate organizational level business requirements and use cases into architectural capabilities verified to meet the requirements
  • Design solution-independent architecture models that map business services to cloud application stacks
  • Continuously manage, monitor, and update architecture models as business needs evolve and additional cloud services become available
  • Participate in optimizing solution, component, and application architectures to manage costs and identify cost control mechanisms
  • Assist product owners, solution architects, and application architects in designing scalable, highly available, secure, cost-effective solutions that leverage cloud services
  • Utilize cost/benefit models with mapping architecture to business outcomes and KPIs
  • Maintain technical vendor relationships
  • Participate in business case development and validation (for enterprise level business cloud projects)
  • Curate cloud reference architecture documentation
  • Performs other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required, assigned and directed.
  • Cloud Architect should align with the business to drive the following Outcomes, Activities and Deliverables:


  • Well documented architectural patterns and processes to evaluate new services
  • Clear alignment with Project Management Office (PMO) and business strategies
  • Dedicated team members supporting the cloud team throughout their engagement lifecycle
  • Activities:

  • Participate in the participates in cross-functional teams that work to review architectural initiatives
  • Define High-Level Cloud Architecture
  • Define Application-Level Architectures
  • Define process for evaluating and approving new Amazon Web  Services (AWS)/Primitives
  • Define Cloud Reference Architectures for common solution archetypes
  • Deliverables:

  • Defined architectures for CPE products and services
  • Defined architectures for supported Cloud Reference Architectures
  • Updated demand management processes
  • New service and pattern approval processes
  • Integration model with Enterprise Architecture capability

    Education: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sscience or engineering related field or equivalent work experience. Certified Solutions Architect Professional and Certified DevOps Engineer Professional highly desired.

    Experience: – 5+ year of IT architect experience, with at least 3 years in AWS Cloud Architecture demonstrating hands-on deployment and operation of AWS based solutions.  3+ years experience in software development/coding in .NET, .NET Framework, .NET Core and related technologies.


  • Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining AWS infrastructure in support of business analytics stack, such as Redshift, Tableau, AWS Glue, AWS Directory Service, RDS and Aurora and leveraging third party support structure
  • Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining AWS infrastructure in support of third-party integration software such as Dell Boomi or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, or FEAF
  • Integration of cloud services with on premise technologies
  • Infrastructure automation through DevOps scripting (E.g. shell, Python, Ruby, PowerShell)
  • Configuration management using CloudFormation
  • Experience with software development life cycle (SDLC), CI/CD pipeline, agile/iterative and agile/scrum methodologies required
  • Hands on technology infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization experience with a Cloud focus
  • Experience with networking principles and technologies (DNS, Load Balancers, Reverse Proxies, VPNs, BGP)
  • Experience driving discussions with senior personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management and risk mitigation
  • Willingness to research and self-study to keep technical skills relevant in a highly complex environment
  • Innovative and ability to think outside the box for creative problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges
  • Ability to mentor and lead training for internal cloud team
