My client designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. Their expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Writer/Editor to join our Electromagnetic Systems group located in Rancho Bernardo.

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for formatting and editing documentation that will be used by our external customers and internal personnel. Meeting minute taking both internally, and with the customer. Creating and editing of business instructions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures documents are formatted and edited in accordance with the templates and style guide, requested specifications and contractual requirements, including development of any necessary illustrations, photographs, or other graphic representations.
  • Researches or obtains appropriate information through personnel interviews for tasks.
  • Ensures final materials clearly and effectively communicate the information and data.
  • May present document(s) to customers and program management staff, make related presentations.
  • Take accurate meeting minutes, including but not limited to:
  • Type accurately and quickly for long periods
  • Identify accurately Attendee speakers and what they said
  • Capture meeting topics and action items accurately
  • Capable of memorizing product terms
  • Coordinate and reconcile review comments
  • Generate a post-meeting report for release by due date
  • Experience in writing in CDRL format is a plus
  • Represent the department professionally.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

  • Typically requires education or formal training equivalent to the completion of an associate's degree in a related discipline and three or more years progressive experience in a technical field. May substitute equivalent professional experience in lieu of education/training.
  • Extensive experience formatting and editing technical documentation using Microsoft Word (2013 or higher), including a robust understanding of template application, styles, other advanced features, and their proper use.
  • Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) certification preferred or relevant MS Word training class/course with emphasis on formatting and desktop publishing.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of computer-based tools in the production of technical and business documentation.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including mastery of English language, grammar, structure and punctuation, and the ability to write complete, concise, and accurate content.
  • Must have exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to type 50+ WPM.
  • Organized and able to multi-task, follow directions, work with minimal supervision, take initiative, and solve problems.
  • Interview and interact comfortably with colleagues of all levels.
  • Perform writing, editorial, formatting, and proofreading tasks under strict deadlines, in a fast?paced environment.
  • Must have highly effective time management skills, including the ability to set and manage multiple deadlines, anticipate issues, and escalate potential problems as needed.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information is a must.
  • Experience working with life cycle program management tools such as Windchill a plus.
  • Ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
