A Nonclinical Veterinary Technician direct hire / full-time position is available through Modis in West Lafayette, Indiana and this is an onsite position.

Overview: The Nonclinical Veterinary Technician is responsible for performing organizational and support functions for nonclinical testing in large and small animals in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice and other applicable regulations, including assisting with veterinary care for surgical and interventional procedures.


  • Perform tasks both in the office and in laboratories according to procedures, study protocols, and applicable regulations (including Good Laboratory Practice)
  • Adhere to safety precautions, work procedures, and scientific principles provided by training
  • Properly document, organize, and help analyze data generated during the study
  • Assist with sterile and non-sterile surgical and interventional procedures
  • Become familiar with surgical supplies and equipment needed for surgical and interventional procedures
  • Perform standard pre-operative and post-operative procedures (e.g., intubation, anesthesia induction and maintenance, pain management, injections, blood draws, post-surgical recovery)
  • Assist with the use of laboratory equipment (e.g., blood analyzers, fluoroscopy, endoscopy)
  • Assist with animal necropsies and tissue collection
  • Communicate scheduling to help coordinate functions of CRI and off-site personnel for animal studies
  • Assist off-site personnel with receiving, examining, and transferring incoming and ongoing study animals
  • Clean and prepare surgical instruments for sterilization
  • Inventory and order laboratory supplies as needed for animal studies
  • Provide occasional animal husbandry, health care, and monitoring with documentation
  • Provide clerical and administrative support in preparation of study reports
  • Maintain certifications, as applicable
  • Travel as needed
  • Exemplify a positive, helpful, team-oriented attitude to prepare, execute, and complete laboratory studies
  • Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology, Biology, Animal Science, or equivalent is required
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or degree in animal science with large animal experience.
  • Experience with animal use for research and development is preferred
  • Knowledge of research animal physiology, anatomy, anesthesia, and general care
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional, goal-oriented, self-motivated, and responsible
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle multiple and changing priorities along with fluctuations in workload
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets
  • Frequently required to stand for long periods
  • Occasionally lifts or moves up to 50 pounds
