2017 was a strong year for the nation and specifically for the STEM industry, which experienced strong job creation. Where are these new jobs being added?

Some of the fastest growing positions are Information Security Manager, IT Program Manager, DevOps Engineer and Web Application Developer. The BLS reports show that it is a great time to be in the STEM industry. Let’s find out which cities are making the biggest contributions to this growth!

Dallas, Texas

There were 80,000 tech jobs added in Dallas this year. The unemployment rate went from 4.3% to 3.7% in Dallas alone. This area is booming economically, causing the cost of living to go up and leading residents to hunt for better jobs. The average amount of money spent on housing is around $21,200 – that’s almost 34% of their income spent solely on housing. Now that you know Dallas is a top city for tech job growth, it is important to know what companies to look for in the city. AT&T is headquartered in Dallas, so there is plenty of opportunity for IT positions. They are the world’s largest telecommunications company and are constantly growing.

Atlanta, Georgia

In Atlanta, the unemployment rate decreased slightly from 4.9% to 4.3%, which means good news for the market in this city. There were 72,000 jobs added in Atlanta. The heart of the city is where there are the highest average weekly wages: more than $1,000 a week. Atlanta is a buzzing city – with continued growth and change, more and more people are wanting to live in Atlanta, which can make the job hunt a daunting with how many others are seeking jobs. Seattle, Washington

Although the unemployment rate increased from 3.9% to 4.3%, that does not mean that this city isn’t rapidly growing. Seattle’s price paid by urban consumers in energy is two percent higher than the national average. The average weekly wages in some parts of the city range from $953 to $1,626, which is overall higher than Atlanta and Dallas. As no surprise, Amazon is the largest private employer in the city of Seattle. They currently employ 40,000 people in downtown Seattle, which allows about 20% of them to walk to work.
